Pelican Products, a US manufacturer of rugged, nearly indestructible cases and lighting solutions has launched a line of consumer products called Pelican ProGear. ProGear consists of rugged backpacks, tough, protective cases for everything from iPhones, iPods, Smart Phones, Tablets, Netbooks and Laptops, heavy duty coolers and aerospace grade aluminium flashlights and torches.
Having made a name for itself amongst firefighters, police, military, aerospace, and industrial customers, Pelican brings that same durability to the ProGear line. The u100 Elite Laptop Backpack, for example, has a built-in watertight and crushproof case that fits 15” laptops and up to a 17” Apple computer contained inside a ballistic nylon pack. The u100 Elite Backpack has been successfully tested under nearly a metre of water for 30 minutes.
The ProGear line actually brings Pelican full circle, back to the Outdoor and Adventure sports industries some of its earliest products were created for. Started in 1976 by Scuba Diving enthusiast Dave Parker out of his garage in southern California, the goal was to create rugged gear that wouldn’t leak or fail. Today, ProGear athletes include Jeb Corliss, one of the world’s most renowned BASE jumpers and wingsuit pilots, testing ProGear under the most extreme conditions.
In Australia, Pelican bought out a key distributor in 2008, who already had 20 years experience marketing and selling Pelican Products into the country. The new ProGear line is available in Australia through Pelican Australia’s traditional channels, including the ProGear Australia website. MSRP’s start from as low as A$34.95 for the most compact LED flashlight and A$39.95 for the ProGear Sport Wallet and iPod Case, on up to A$399.95 for the Elite Backpacks and A$459.95 for the 61 Litre Elite Cooler with a 7-10 day ice retention capability.
