Allsports Distribution Limited, one of New Zealand’s bigger distributors of Outdoor gear, has made a foray into Australia. With representation based out of Sydney, Allsports unveiled the Marmot and Ahnu lines at Australia’s Snow & Outdoor Trade Association Trade Fair in Canberra in May. Allsports was built off the Marmot brand back in 1999, and has had a long association with both Marmot and Ahnu in New Zealand. Supporting both brands in Australia seems a natural fit. Dave Stewart heads the Allsports presence in the country as Australian Sales Manager.
Founded in New Zealand by Clint Atkins, a former mountain bike racer and accomplished skier, Allsports has added numerous well-known outdoor brands to its portfolio over the years. These include Marmot, Ahnu, Scarpa, Superfeet, Vigilante, Black Wolf, Gu, Jetboil, Nutcase, Kor, Fozzils, Bear Grylls by Craghoppers, NosiLife by Craghoppers, and Head (Snow). Allsports is one of the few major national distributors headquartered in the North Island, out of Taupo, while many others are clustered around Christchurch in the South. The staff are passionate outdoor enthusiasts and have an entire outdoor playground at their doorstep with Mt. Ruapehu, Whakapapa and Turoa ski fields, national parks, mountain biking trails, watersports and more. The team are also passionate about keeping up to date with the latest trends in outdoor gear, having sent representation to the Outdoor Retailer (Summer) Trade Show in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA in early August.
As for the brands, Marmot has an extensive range of apparel from technical outdoor to lifestyle, as well as sleeping bags, tents, backpacks and luggage. Founded in 1973 by two university students in California making their own Down-based mountaineering gear. The product range now includes such award winning apparel as the long-running Oracle Jacket, a lightweight, waterproof, breathable shell now made with Marmot’s MemBrain Strata lamination technology, as well as the newer PreCip shells that use GE’s eVent DVL (Direct Venting Lite) for even lighter weight and more breathability.
Ahnu, founded in San Francisco in 2007 by three industry veterens, is all about performance footwear. Using biomechanists, designers and athletes to develop the footwear, Ahnu’s product range covers technical, casual, boots and sandals. One of the newest editions is The Coburn, an all-day, all-weather hiker, complete with eVent technology in the bootie to wick away moisture from the foot, and waterproof leathers. The boot also contains Ahnu’s Numentum technology to encourage the foot’s natural biomechanics. Our affiliate, The GearCaster, has previously tested the Ahnu Montara in the Dolomites of Italy, and found they performed well on almost any terrain.
